Srasta Mukherjee, Sneharka Poria and Rakesh Mahato, Post Graduate and Under Graduate Students, Department of Chemistry, School of Science, Adamas University won the second prize in the student’s poster presentation in a two-day national seminar on ‘Modern Research Trends in Chemistry’ (MRTC-2019) organised by St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata in association with the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), Eastern India Section during 22-23 February 2019.
The group of the students pursue the work under the supervision of Dr. Prabuddha Bhattacharya, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry with the title ‘A Study on Genotoxicity of Fluoroquinolone Antibiotics Based on DNA-binding Assays’. They tried to delineate the non-selective DNA binding toxicity of certain well-known antibiotic drugs. The study invokes the necessity for structural modification of these drug molecules to reduce their genotoxicity without compromising with their therapeutic activity.
