The School of Science, Department of Geography organized the Celebration of “World GIS Day” on 15th November, 2018 pivoted around the theme “Discovering the world through GIS” or Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which is a tool for displaying and analyzing the data related to positions on Earth’s surface. Millions of decisions on every day are being powered by GIS technology, from pinpointing a new shopping mall location, to reporting the power outages, to predicting climate change or to evaluating the crime patterns, GIS is transforming the entire human civilization. On this occasion, a keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Tapati Banerjee, Director, National Atlas and Thematic Mapping Organization (NATMO). The event comprised of poster presentation, quiz competition and lecture. Over 90 students and teachers from aroud seven secondary and higher secondary schools participated in and attended the World GIS Day.
