Dr. Prantik Banerjee, had completed his graduation with Honours in Chemistry (2006) from Surendranath College under the University of Calcutta, followed by M.Sc. in Environmental Science (University of Calcutta) in 2008. Initially employed as a Project Fellow in a Centre for Research in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (University of Calcutta) funded project (2009), and later as CSIR Senior Research Fellow (2012), he proceeded with his doctoral research work at the Department of Chemical Engineering of the same university. During the tenure, he had gained experience of guiding students at B.Tech and M.Tech level in their dissertation works. He was awarded his Ph.D. (Sc.) degree in 2015. Title of his Ph.D. thesis was “Removal of Organic and Heavy Metal Pollutants Present in Wastewater by Photocatalysis using Micro and Nano sized Zinc Oxide Particles under Artificial and Solar Radiation”. Meanwhile, in 2013, he was selected as a Project Scientist in a World Bank funded Capacity Building for Industrial Pollution Management Project implemented by the West Bengal Pollution Control Board. His duties included sampling and analyses of various physico-chemical parameters in solid, liquid and air matrices, developing methodologies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for experiments and analysis of samples (hazardous in nature predominantly), assisting purchase, installation, commissioning and handling of sophisticated laboratory instruments, reconnaissance, site assessment and monitoring reports from the pilot sites and data obtained from other laboratories, facilitate the preparation of the World Bank standard project completion report, maintain records and official documents. His tenure as project scientist developed the foundation of sound knowledge and skill set incorporating strong command in all areas of environmental analytical chemistry, handling sophisticated instruments and regular maintenance, developing SOPs for good laboratory practices, and experience of working in ISO 17025 (NABL Accredited) laboratory. After that, he was involved in Netaji Nagar College for Women and Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College under the University of Calcutta, and as a Guest Faculty and also at Department of Computer Engineering, University of Calcutta as a Guest faculty of Environmental Science. Dr. Banerjee has more than 7 years of research experience in photocatalytic treatment of wastewater (real and simulated), wastewater chemistry, and environmental analytical chemistry involving analysis of metal ions, other non-metallic inorganic ions and organic pollutants. He has expertise in handling of instruments such as HPLC, GC, AAS, ICP-OES, XRF. He has attended a number of national and international conferences and presented his work successfully, including International Conference on Hydrology and Groundwater Expo, 2012, organized by Omics Publishing Group (Los Angeles, USA) at San Antonio, Texas, USA, 10th-12th September, 2012 (Paper titled: “Photocatalytic degradation of azo-dye under sunlight with different types of sonochemically synthesized ZnO nanoparticles – A comparative study”) and International Conference on Environment (ICENV 2010), organized by Universiti Sains Malaysia, at Batu Feringhii, Penang, Malaysia, 13th-15th December, 2010 (Paper titled: “Utilization of solar energy for photocatalytic oxidative degradation of azo dye in wastewater using zinc oxide nanoparticles”). He has published his research works at 10 peer reviewed journals and has published 1 book chapter.
