Dr. Jana is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics, School of Science, Adamas University, Kolkata. He was awarded PhD in oceanography from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 2014. He received the Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship (2012-2013) and worked as a Fulbright Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, USA. Dr. Jana worked as Postoctoral Associate at Florida State University, USA during 2014-2016 followed by at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA during 2016-2018.
Dr. Jana has experience of processing and analyzing various in situ and remote sensing data, regional ocean modeling, data assimilation, real-time forecasting, onboard sea-exercises. His research interest includes (i) basin- to coastal-scale modeling to study oceanographic processes over the Indian Ocean region and (ii) application-oriented data-driven and data-assimilative operational modeling with uncertainty estimation to predict the coastal environment. This research will contribute towards monsoon and cyclone prediction, and coastal ecosystem management.
